Cutaway showing the wall and core

The build

Why it's different.

Looks like a ball. Moves like a sheep that won’t cooperate.

A stray is the one sheep that breaks from the flock, and that’s what this ball does. The Stray looks identical to our Classic, but a dense weight is moulded into one side of the shell. Push it and it surges, stalls, wobbles and veers off line. Your dog can’t predict where it’s going, so it has to keep working.

It’s built for high-drive dogs who’ve figured out the regular ball. It’s still a true sphere, with no narrow end to clamp onto, so you get unpredictable movement without giving your dog anything easy to bite.

Choose your size

  • Small: for puppies and smaller herders like Shelties, Corgis and young collies.
  • Medium: for border collies, Australian Shepherds and other mid-sized herding breeds.
  • Large: for big, powerful herders like German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois and Bouviers.

The weight is tuned for each size, so the wobble stays lively whether a Sheltie or a Shepherd is pushing it. Between sizes? Go up.

Why it’s different

  • Off-centre weight: locked into the shell so it never rattles or shifts. The ball speeds up, drags and changes direction on its own.
  • No grab points: a true sphere, scaled so your dog pushes it rather than picks it up.
  • Two-layer wall: a solid skin over a foamed layer, tough outside with a little give under teeth.
  • Thicker shell: one piece and fully sealed, with no port or plug.
  • Hollow core: stays light enough to push easily.

Built to take it

  • Impact-tough, even below freezing
  • Resists punctures and gouges
  • UV-stabilised, so it won’t go brittle in the sun
  • Colour moulded through, so it won’t chip or peel
  • BPA-free and non-toxic

FAQ

Questions.

What is a herding ball?

A large, tough ball made for herding breeds to push, chase and steer with their nose and shoulders, the way they'd move livestock. It's too big to pick up, so instead of fetching and chewing, your dog gets to do what it was bred for: gather and drive.

When will my ball ship?

Orders ship early 2027. We'll email you tracking as soon as yours is on its way.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes. Cancel any time before your order ships and you get a full refund.

Which size should I get?

Go by your dog. Small for puppies and smaller herders, medium for border collies and Aussies, large for big herders like German Shepherds. Between sizes? Go up.

Is it a chew toy?

No. Outrun balls are made for pushing and herding. Always supervise play, and replace the ball if it's cracked or damaged.

Where do you ship?
